Viztek Introduces New Features to DR at RSNA 2009

November 12, 2009, Raleigh, NC—Highlighted by a new digital radiography (DR) auto-positioning for auto-stitch feature, Viztek, the comprehensive medical imaging solution provider, debuts a range of enhancements to its Viztek family of DR products at the upcoming Radiological Society of North America (RSNA) conference.  Viztek DR, which includes single-and dual-detector models, as well as a U-arm configuration, brings the power of advanced DR imaging to facilities of all sizes at an affordable price point.  The technology features an industry-leading flat-panel detector, intuitive touch screen interface and rapid four to six-second image turnaround from exposure to display.

With the new Viztek DR auto-positioning for auto-stitch feature, users simply press a button and the device automatically aligns multiple images to create a single picture.  The feature automatically compensates for any patient movement across exposures and synthesizes a clean, accurate diagnostic image.  Stitching techniques are typically used when an anatomical target exceeds the size of the DR panel. Stitching allows for multiple images to be captured and seamlessly assembled together.

“The new DR auto-position and auto-stitch feature is extremely sophisticated and will save sites significant time over alternative  methods of stitching, while assuring a highly accurate exam,” said Bruce Ashby, General Manager for Viztek.  “The feature minimizes the measurements required to assemble multiple images.  The patient is simply positioned a pre-determined distance from the acquisition panel, and from there, the entire process is automated.”

Midwest Orthopedics at Rush (MOR), part of a large multi-specialty practice, has installed multiple systems with the auto-position and stitch feature.  MOR believes stitching will significantly enhance their workflow by automating a full range of exams, such as long bone imaging, and eliminate the multi-step process required in the past.

At RSNA 2009, Viztek also will introduce a new weight-bearing Viztek DR stand for podiatric x-rays that require patients to exert pressure on their feet.  “The DR panel simply does not support any significant weight,” explained Ashby. “However, some exams do require that weight be placed on the feet and therefore the x-ray cassette.  Now imaging sites can offer these exams without purchasing and maintaining additional technologies such as computed radiography (CR) or film screen.”
“With these new features, Viztek DR becomes one of the most versatile, affordable and high-performance DR solutions on the market.  Our customers requested these features, and Viztek created them to support a full range of imaging needs.”
