November 19, 2009, Raleigh, NC— Viztek, the complete radiology solution provider, has just installed its sixtieth Opal-CR, followed by the sixty-first installation at two Dr. J Express Care urgent care facilities in Abilene, TX. Dr. J Express Care provides service for urgent walk-in patients as well as routine physicals and primary care services. The facility has two Albilene offices in both the north and south of the town, allowing the doctors to reach a broad geographical range of patients.
Both facilities received Viztek’s Opal-MD package, a bundle that includes an Opal-CR and Opal Mini PACS. Prior to the installation, Dr. J’s relied on analog processing with chemicals and film storage. Now, Viztek’s Opal PACS technology allows the two sites to communicate over the web. X-rays can be performed at one site and available securely over the web for viewing at the other site. The digital conversion gives physicians more flexibility to travel between the two locations and without tracking films.
The two practice locations are served by five physicians, five practitioners, and two physician assistants. “Dr. J.’s Express Care strives to provide a patient to provider ratio that minimizes wait time without compromising the quality of patient care,” says Dr. Jeffrey Jackson.
The practice often sees an influx of chest x-rays during cold and flu season. This year, with the added help of CR, they can see more patients more quickly. Additionally, the practice often x-rays student athletes with sports injuries from nearby universities. “Going digital has changed the way our practice operates. We no longer need to purchase film, dedicate a room to film processing, nor do we need to take up extra space for film storage. We’re really excited about how Viztek’s digital solution is changing our practice workflow at both facilities for the better,” says Zach Jackson, Dr. J Express Care, Office Administrator and Co-Owner.
