Raleigh, NC—Southwest Diagnostic (San Antonio), an advanced, multi-site, multi-modality imaging center, has selected Viztek’s Opal-wRIS web-based RIS solution for comprehensive imaging exam and business management.
According to facility administrator Suren Kamath, the new Viztek solution offers important, technologically advanced features that will help the busy site realize significant workflow efficiencies and provide unique referring physician conveniences, while integrating seamlessly with its existing Opal-RAD PACS.
Southwest Diagnostic has three locations and is a multi-modality center that provides imaging services of hi-field and open-MRI nuclear medicine, ultrasound, including Doppler exams, dexa bone densitometry and digital x-ray. Previously, the site had been using a basic scheduling application and was looking for a more robust solution to efficiently manage business workflow.
According to Kamath, their new Viztek solution offers a referring physician portal enabling these doctors to schedule patient exams over the Internet. “This tool is extremely important in addressing patient non-compliance in imaging procedures. Scheduling a patient for an imaging study now has increased visibility; the feature enables imaging center staff to immediately identify patients needing imaging so that they can follow up and ensure the patient exam is performed.”
The second unique feature of Viztek’s web-based RIS solution is an automated insurance validation process, which queries a patient’s insurance records upon check-in to deliver a digital log of payment rates. Kamath says, “This functionality benefits the practice in two respects. It will save our staff time compared to manually contacting insurance carriers for each appointment and also will validate insurance payment before a procedure takes place, assuring we will receive funds.”
