Growing Practice to Install Viztek Opal-RAD PACS, Opal-RIS, Billing Software, CR Device and More

December 7, 2010—Raleigh, NC—Prime Radiology has selected Viztek, the single source radiology equipment vendor, to supply a comprehensive, integrated radiology IT solution along with computed radiography (CR) hardware for its new imaging center location in Edison, N.J.  The multi-modality site with five radiologists will install Viztek’s Opal-RAD web-based PACS, Opal-RIS web-based RIS and billing software to support a full range of modalities. Prime Radiology selected the complete Viztek product suite because it offered the advanced web-based features and CR performance the practice needed at an affordable price.

“We plan to read exams from multiple locations and to communicate images and reports electronically to referring physicians,” said Suresh Mody, MD, president of Prime Radiology.  He noted that in addition to CR, the center will also offer CT and ultrasound exams as well as digital mammography, echocardiology and bone densitometry.  “As a new center, we needed to purchase and install a large amount of technology at one time,” he continued.  “Viztek offered us a fully integrated state-of-the-art system that fit our budget that made sense to purchase and install it immediately.”

Prior to selecting the Viztek system, Dr. Mody sought recommendations from colleagues, interviewed a range of vendors and carefully checked user references.  “Viztek sites were extremely enthusiastic about the all of the applications,” he said, noting that one installation had been using the PACS for more than eight years and still found the software met its needs.
A major benefit of the Viztek offering is that the application suite and CR all will be installed fully integrated and will include a built in voice recognition system.  “Once the technology is in place, our center will be up and running,” he commented.  “We will not need to worry about interfacing disparate systems.”
Currently Prime Radiology is based in St. Michael’s Hospital in Newark, N.J. where it is responsible for all exam reading.  Once the new center opens, the practice’s radiologists will rotate between the hospital and the new location.

In the future, Dr. Mody plans to expand services by offering a range of sub-specialty exams to be read by contracted remote radiologists.  “We also needed a strong, web-based system to support our expansion plans, and Viztek was a great fit,” he says.
