Raleigh, NC—Metropolitan Orthopedics (St. Louis) has selected Viztek’s digital radiography (DR) U-Arm solution to enhance workflow and ensure high quality exams for its growing patient load. The new solution will eliminate the image processing time required by the practice group’s current computed radiography (CR) unit and provide physicians with immediate image access following exams to streamline patient care, according to Paul E. Roberts, practice administrator.
Prior to purchasing the new DR solution, the practice had relied on its existing CR unit for several years and believed that the technology had become antiquated. The busy four-person practice conducts about 430 exams monthly and knew that a DR system’s enhanced image quality and processing speed would streamline patient care by eliminating physician downtime during image processing.
After conducting a thorough search of the DR marketplace, Metropolitan Orthopedics narrowed its focus down to three final contenders. “Viztek offered a full-featured solution at an affordable price,” comments Roberts. “Additionally, we had been using Viztek’s PACS to manage our images. Based on our experience with the company, we knew the DR would be reliable. Naturally, it also would integrate seamlessly with our existing IT system.”
Bruce Ashby, Viztek DR product manager, explains, “Having new products that improve workflow by moving patients from an exam typically performed on a table to an upright procedure provides a better experience for the patient and quicker throughput for facilities. Viztek is always working to find ways to improve patient comfort and procedure speed.”
As part of the search, Roberts investigated whether a u-arm configuration would support the practice’s full range of exams and existing workflow. “That was absolutely the case,” he explains. “While in the past, many of our procedures were done on a table, we found that they could easily be handled with a u-arm. While the Viztek DR can work with a table, shifting the unit’s configuration for specific exams would have added time. But it is absolutely not necessary.”
System set up was easy and straightforward, according to Roberts, and integration with the PACS was seamless. With the new Viztek U-Arm system, patient set up is simple and image processing is completed in five seconds. “The physicians are already very impressed,” adds Roberts. “The entire imaging process is so much more efficient.“
