Raleigh, October 9, 2012 – Viztek, the advanced radiology solution company, has been selected to provide its Opal-RAD PACS solution at Lakeway Regional Medical Center in Austin, TX. The Viztek technology was selected for its sophisticated web-based capabilities that enable streamlined image distribution throughout the enterprise and the community for ultra-fast, secure communications with referring physicians. The PACS was deployed shortly after Lakeway opened in May to replace another PACS originally installed then at the facility.
“Fast, convenient communications with our referral base was essential to our growth plans,” says Kevin Barker, MD, a radiologist at the busy mid-sized hospital. “We believed that providing our clinicians with the highest level of service was essential to growing our new department. As we worked with the original PACS, it became immediately became apparent that the technology simply did not measure up to our expectations. In addition to lacking any ability to communicate beyond the enterprise, it was extremely slow and inefficient.”
According to Barker, in addition to easy web-based communications beyond the enterprise, ease of use and speed were key considerations. Viztek’s Opal-PACS was easy to use, integrated well with existing IT systems and boasted a range of additional benefits. “Viztek fit the bill,” he says.
Another benefit of Opal-RAD PACS was its support for web-based viewing on mobile devices, while the original system was limited to image viewing in the radiology department only. Further, the advanced web technology also enabled flexible image access wherever a web browser is available. Opal-RAD’s built-in dictation also enabled report creation anywhere and anytime.
Dr. Barker, who is also a partner in Community Radiology Associates in the Austin and San Antonio region, had been using a Viztek PACS in his practice for more than four years. He knew firsthand that the technology was advanced, cost effective and reliable. “It seemed an obvious choice for Lakeway. While the hospital had to scrap a PACS that was practically new, the Viztek PACS will serve us well and help us make our mark with local referrers.”
