New York HIEs collaborate for success
The requirements of Meaningful Use call for facilities to implement interoperable systems that are able to communicate with ease. Lifting these limitations can help reform the industry to be more effective and less costly for all stakeholders.
EHR Intelligence reported that two upstate New York HIE organizations merged to form HealthlinkNY, a larger network that covers 11 different counties in the area. The collaboration between Southern Tier Healthlink and Taconic Health Information Network and Community will allow physicians to access patient data from a secure portal. Together, the providers will promote care coordination and cost savings.
"This merger will harness our individual strengths and combine them to transform and improve health care from the Southern Tier through the Hudson Valley," said Christina Galanis, executive director of Southern Tier HealthLink, quoted by the source.
Comprehensive HIE stands to dramatically improve the quality of clinical services and increase patient satisfaction as hospital staff spend less time tracking down health records and more time treating individuals.
How HIEs enhance analytics, population health
The focus on health IT interoperability and data sharing can have a positive impact on numerous aspects of health care, including diagnostic imaging results. Scans can be easily transmitted to connected facilities and expedite the continuum of care.
HealthITAnalytics explained how effective HIE can connect providers within the community and serve to bolster population health management. Clinicians would be able to identify distinctive health issues within their regions, such as obesity or lung cancer. In turn, hospitals could order the appropriate tools and supplies needed to treat prevalent diseases or conditions in their respective populations.
