Viztek Downloadable Software used Around the Globe

RaleighNC Viztek, the digital radiology solution provider, announces the 1500th download of its PikoPACS (Pee-koh), a free downloadable PACS application featuring the same high quality viewer as the company’s successful Opal-RAD PACS, which has been commercially available since 2006.

PikoPACS debuted this August, and downloads of the popular new browser-based PACS have been equally divided between private medical centers, including urgent care, multi-specialty and radiology groups, and individual radiologists using the viewer at home or other off-site locations.  A significant number of international users have turned to the free viewer, and PikoPACS is now officially in use on every continent.

“PikoPACS is a high quality, full-featured PACS.  It is easy-to-use and designed to meet the needs of small medical practices and individual radiologists,” said Steve Deaton, Vice President of Sales for Viztek. “We are pleased with the high level of immediate acceptance from this market space, and the response suggests that the medical community has not previously seen a quality, easy-to-use free PACS.”

Deaton points out that digital radiology has become the norm, and even small radiology departments need a PACS, yet may be unable to support the typical financial investment required.  Moreover, physicians in other specialties who even infrequently work with images need a DICOM viewing and archiving application.  “PikoPACS is a great fit for these doctors,” he says.

Currently an online PikoPACS forum is available to help users share product knowledge. Viztek plans to unveil a new ecommerce site this month that will offer additional licensing and toolsets for the PACS.

PikoPACS is designed for simplicity and versatility, and is expandable for physicians who need more functionality. It installs with a single click, runs on most existing personal computers and is browser-based.  It supports DICOM receive, send, and print modes and even CD burning and import.

“PikoPACS is an excellent solution for a wide range of users, from general physicians to imaging specialists who need a second solution for work outside of their main locations,” said Deaton.  Furthermore, it provides an excellent introduction to the full range of Viztek’s advanced imaging technologies at no cost.”
