Viztek, the state-of-the-art digital imaging solution provider, introduces an advanced Universal PACS functionality that will enable its Web-based Opal-RAD PACS to acquire, manage and integrate imaging studies from multiple PACS solutions into a single enterprise worklist for true location-free and PACS-independent workflow. Additionally, the enhanced Viztek PACS will automatically send reports back to the original PACS for storage.
This new functionality enables radiology groups reading for multiple facilities and enterprises running multiple PACS solutions to communicate across disparate IT systems to work together seamlessly as if they were functioning in a single PACS environment.
“Opal-RAD enables radiologists to centrally manage reports from multiple PACS solutions as if they were all utilizing the same system,” said Steve Deaton, Vice Pesident of Sales for Viztek. “Most other systems can be setup for rules-based auto-routing of exams and will push relevant PACS information to our system. But, unlike these t solutions, Opal-RAD can query other systems to pull any prior exams that may not have been forwarded.. This DICOM query functionality also facilitates communications with PACS solutions without the capability of automatically sending exams to other systems.”
Once this data is accessed by Opal-RAD, it will appear in the global and physician-specific worklists. Exams not pre-assigned to previous physicians will be selectively assigned to specific radiologists for reading utilizing Viztek’s advanced load-balancing functionalities.
When reports are completed, they will be saved to the Viztek PACS, and copies can be auto-routed to the original PACS.
“Today, healthcare facilities need to make the most of their budgets, and often must function with several legacy PACS solutions in place. In essence, Opal-RAD sits on top of all these solutions and can manage information across platforms as well as direct exams to specific Opal-RAD users.”
Additionally, Deaton points out, many of today’s radiology groups are taking advantage of digital systems to cover more facilities remotely. Opal-RAD enables such groups to manage their workflow seamlessly as if all exams were initially acquired by their PACS solution It also enables them to work in multiple locations with web-based anywhere, any time image access.
“Opal-RAD is all about supporting the growing emphasis on efficient healthcare data flow—and always has been,” he said.
